This virtual course aims at providing both theoretical and practical knowledge to become a qualified English teacher. It consists of three modules which can be done altogether or one at a time, according to your time availability. These modules are:

Course Characteristics
This course offers two different modalities. See how they work:
Mode 1: you can watch the pre-recorded lessons, which reproduce the real class, anytime you want to (Self-Study)
Mode 2: you can be part of the live virtual classes. You will meet the teacher and classmates in a virtual room which integrates audio, interactive board and the use of webcam for those who want to use it at a pre-arranged time. The classes last approximately 60-120 minutes each.
In both modalities the tutor will observe the lessons you teach and provide personalised feedback.
Starting Date and Duration
You can start this course anytime.
Each module will requiere 110-120 hours (30 hours of input lessons, 40 hours individual work on the platform, 40-60 hours self-study). The whole TEFL course takes about 230 hours to be completed plus self-study.
Each module is thought to be done in 3 months, and the complete course in approximately 9 months. This may vary according to each person’s pace, so you can choose to do the course over a longer period of time.

Content
Mod.1: Background to teaching
- Language terminology to describe the English language
- Analysis of the 4 basic skills (writing, speaking, listening, reading) and how to develop them
- Teaching methodologies and analysis of learning theories
- Lesson planning: its components and sequence
- Use of different resources in the classroom to promote learning
- Classroom management and the learning process
Mod.2: Brush up your English:
Phonology:
- Study of the English phonetic symbols, working on the correct production of each of them: their place and manner of articulation and the air flow required for a correct pronunciation
- Recognition and production of phonemic scripts
- Grammatical and spelling patterns related to each of the phonemes (past participle and plurals’ pronunciation)
- Analysis of isolated sounds and their different behaviour when in Connected Speech
Language Awareness:
- All the verb tenses, their uses, similarities and differences
- Analysis of grammar structures with a deep understanding of their meaning and uses (conditionals, reported speech, unreal pasts &wishes, linking words, verb patterns: gerund-infinitive, etc.).
Mod.3: Teaching Practice:
- Analysis of different teaching methodologies and learning theories, and how to apply them in the class
- How to teach grammar and vocabulary successfully
- How to develop the 4 basic skills
- Lesson planning: what to include in the plan and how to sequence it
- Teaching techniques to apply in the real class
- Teaching Practice:
- How to select appropriate resources and use them effectively
- How to select suitable activities for the different stages of the lesson
- Adequate classroom management in order to accompany the learning process
- Class observation and its analysis
- Tutorial: one-to-one feedback sessions on the classes taught by each of the participants - an essential tool to improve your teaching skills and be well prepared for the exam
Course Development
This course can be done in two different modalities:
Course development Mode 1: the course consists of short pre-recorded lessons, which will effectively guide you throughout the course, providing clear explanations and examples, for you to grasp them at once! It is ideal to work at your own pace and it can be done anytime, anywhere. (self-study). See how the recorded lessons are.
Course development Mode 2: The course consists of live lessons of approximately 60-120 minutes each, done in a virtual room which integrates audio, interactive board and the use of webcam for those who want to use it. There are approximately 50 lessons. You will be interacting with your classmates and tutor, being able to ask any questions along the course. The time is set. You choose the one convenient to you. See how the virtual meetings are.
In both modalities, you will have access to our Virtual Campus where you will do some practice online and check the assignments after each class. Study notes for each lesson are available there.
For Module 3, Teaching Practice, you will find the pre-recorded lessons for you to observe and analyse on our Virtual Campus. You will also have individual feedback from the tutor on the lessons you have taught following the course guidelines.
All the material needed for the course will be provided.
Assessment
Upon completion of the course you will have the following tests: A final exam for each of the modules which evaluates what has been learnt along the course and a practical exam in Module 3, Teaching Practice: you will be teaching a class which will be observed and evaluated according to the guidelines given along the course and the one-to-one tutorials.
The tests are done online in our Virtual Campus.
Certificates awarded
You will get a TEFL Certificate issued by GI Online Language Studies, which states that you have successfully completed a TTC.
Additionally, you will receive a Statement of Completion for each of the modules done, for you to save and print.
You can also get an additional certificate from Cambridge English if you have chosen to sit for TKT 1-3 Cambridge English exam.

Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email message, stating the course you have registered for and its main characteristics.
- Details for payment
You will also receive an email message from PayPal with a payment request. Please follow the instructions there to complete the process. You do not need to have a PayPal account in order to proceed with the payment.
- Login details and instructions
Once the payment has been processed, you will receive an email message within the following 48 hours. It will have your login details and instructions for accessing our virtual campus where you will have everything at hand to successfully complete the course.
